The earliest days of
Aleppo Intl Airport belong to the beginning of the last century. At first the
airport was a small airport which was rapidly upgraded by the time due to the
unique cultural, touristic and economical position which Aleppo city has.
Aleppo is considered
as one of the most inhabited ancient cities in the history referring to its
important position which is located on the trading road, that Aleppo was laid on the
Silk-road ( Al-Harir Road ) between Europe and the orient .
Highlights through the airport development
:
1- In /1918/ the KLM airline
achieved the first KLM flight to the Far East via Aleppo airport , KLM airline
celebrated at /1968/ by the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of its first line
to the Far East.

2- In /1930/ “Amy Johnson”
achieved the first worldwide flight piloted by a woman from “London” to
“Millburn” via Aleppo airport where she was gladly received.

3- Since the middles of
twentieth century, many flights have flown from/to Aleppo by a domestic, Arabian
and foreign airlines to many destinations: Alexandria, Cairo, Mosel, Baghdad,
Ankara, Beirut, and many other cities and capitals.
4- At the beginning of the
sixtieth, the terminal and export-import hangar were constructed to allow more
capacity forced by the increased number of passengers and goods passing through the airport.
5- From /1970/ till /1999/
the airport experienced an accelerated development so that ,as a result, Aleppo
airport became an international airport equipped with high technical and
developed modern navigation aids. The new terminal was inaugurated at /1999/
.
6-Since /2000/
Aleppo Intl airport has witnessed a massive evolution comprised all of the airport
departments , equipments, divisions and establishments as mentioned below:
●The airport was provided
with high technical and developed modern navigation aids and equipments that
include: a modern radar system, aerobridges, modern communication system, fire
engines and a special security check system.
● Developing of the terminal
by constructing modern aerobridges accompanied with special gates in the transit
floor.
● Developing the export-import division by
constructing export-import apron and hangar
● Establishing “VIP”
halls-privilege- and ceremonies?
building.
● Developing the runway with navigation
lighting system “CAT II”, new taxiway and rapid exit taxiways.
● Developing and enlarging the airplane
stands in the apron.
●
The increasement of the operating airlines and related stations which results in
increasment in the airport flights.
